Betas and Pre-readers
At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, betas and pre-readers are important. They check your work for you to make sure it all makes sense and has correct grammar. I don't use one, but I've paid for it on occasion when I find mistakes all over in my stories. Had I used a beta, those mistakes wouldn't have been made public. Here is a list of places to get a beta or pre-reader.
1. Project Team Beta. A wonderful site for anyone looking for a beta.
2. Emergency Beta Service. More than just a beta website! Offers tips and techniques as well.
3. Twilighted.net. You do have to create an account for the forums, but they do have a section where you can request a beta or offer your services as one. The few times I have used this site, I have been referred to Project Team Beta. However, I know it has worked well for some people.
4. Sparkly Red Pen. A great site for anyone looking for a beta or prereader. Also offers some writing tips and some quizzes to test your writing knowlege.
